Candy Cane Beading

Directions:

  • Cut a pipe cleaner in half, put on one clear bead and turn the pipe cleaner around the bead, string a red bead all the way down to cover the sharp end. Continue to string beads in a pattern until all of the beads are used up. After the last bead is added, bend the end around the bead and feed the stem back through the 2nd bead to cover the sharp end to make a candycane shape.


Mitten Matching

Directions:

  • Cut out several pairs of mittens. Draw snowflakes on half of the mittens and numbers on the other half. Have your children match up the mittens, the number of snowflakes on one mitten to the number on the other mitten.


Slipper Roads

Directions:

  • Fill an 8x12" pan with water and freeze. Place it on your science table with toy cars. Let your children drive the cars across the ice. You can also sprinkle salt or sand across the ice to see how it affects the road conditions.


Melting Snowman

Directions:

Fill three balloons with water, place one ballon in a large bowl one in a medium bowl and one in a small bowl. Freeze until solid. (takes 12-24 hours). Peel the balloon off of the ice, take the solid ice balls and place them one on top of the other by placing the largest one inside of your water table and the other two balls on top, make sure you use salt to hold them to them together. If you want you can decorate your snowman with felt pieces. Observe the snowman throughtout the day and watch how it melts.



Sailboating in the Snow

Directions:

  • Fill a large glass bowl with snow or crushed ice. Place a sailboat on top of the snow and have your children observe it throughout the day. By the end of the day the boat will be floating in water. Leave out paper and crayons and ask your children to draw what they see in the bowl throughout the day. Compare the drawings as the day progresses.
